What materials are used for dry lining?

The material list for a Maidstone dry lining job falls into four groups:

Plasterboard (always BS EN 520 stamped on the board edge):

• 12.5mm Type A — the everyday wall board
• 12.5mm Type H — moisture-resistant, for kitchens, utility rooms, bathroom zones away from direct water
• 12.5mm Type F — fire-rated (often the pink or red board), 30 or 60 minutes to BS 476
• 12.5mm Type D — impact-resistant for corridors, stairwells, schools
• 12.5mm Type I — enhanced acoustic (sometimes called SoundBloc or Silent Board)
• 15mm upgrades — better impact and acoustic at the cost of weight
• 9.5mm — ceilings and tight curves where 12.5mm won't bend
• Insulated plasterboard — PIR (best thermal per mm), phenolic (marginal gain, more expensive), graphite EPS (cheapest, thicker)

Framing:

• Metal stud and track — British Gypsum Gypframe or Knauf, 50/70/92/146mm widths to BS 7364
• Timber stud — CLS or regularised softwood for non-fire-rated partitions
• Channels and angles — for independent stud linings and bulkheads

Finishing consumables:

• Drywall adhesive (factory-premix, gypsum-based) for dot-and-dab
• Jointing compound — ready-mix for small jobs, powder for larger areas
• Scrim tape for joint reinforcement
• Corner beads — galvanised for crisp external corners, PVC for wet areas

Branding matters for warranty. British Gypsum GypWall, Knauf, Lafarge (Saint-Gobain), and AMF/Rockfon publish tested system data — fire rating, acoustic rating, structural load — that we rely on for sign-off. Generic unbranded boards don't carry tested performance data, which is why Building Control rejects them on fire-rated and acoustic jobs.

Most boards and metal sections are ex-stock at Travis Perkins Maidstone, CCF Maidstone, or Selco Maidstone with next-day delivery; specialist acoustic and fire-rated boards usually take 24–48 hours.
